News Roundup: February 15th

Good Morning, today is Wednesday, February 15th and here are the stories that interest me.

Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korea’s leader Kim Jun-Un was assassinated this morning in Kuala Lumpur. While news reports are still coming out, currently two women are suspected with carrying out the attack. Kim Jon-nam was critical of the current regime, and was considered a potential threat to the leadership.

Right-Wing Politician Geert Wilders has promised to “Make Netherlands ours again” in an explosive interview on Dutch television. From banning the selling of the Quran to a initiating an exit from the EU, to stopping immigration into the country, Wilder has been gaining support from people throughout the country.  Wilder’s PVV party looks to lead the polls in the March 15 election, but will fall far short of majority, needing other parties to sign onto the coalition. Most of the 28 parties have rejected forming an alliance with the PVV.

In the deepest parts of the world, pollution banned the 70’s and 80’s are wreaking havok on the wildlife in those regions. Researchers have found PCBs or polychlorinated biphenyls in very high levels in the samples from the Marianas Trench, despite them being banned decades ago.
